About

Dr. Justine Simon Bailey
OD, FCOVD

Dr. Justine Simon Bailey has a strong passion for changing lives through vision therapy and neuro-optometric rehabilitation. Her journey to becoming an eye doctor started during her undergraduate studies at the University of California, San Diego where she shadowed Dr. Claude Valenti at the Optometric Vision Development Center, this exact practice location. She is very excited to be back in La Jolla to serve the community. Very early on, she developed a passion for treating patients with visual disorders such as strabismus, amblyopia, learning related vision problems, and acquired brain injury. Born and raised in San Jose, California, Dr. Bailey graduated from Western University of Health Sciences College of Optometry (WUCO) in 2015 and completed her residency in Vision Therapy and Visual Rehabilitation at SUNY College of Optometry in 2016.

While in optometry school, Dr. Bailey was a strong leader and was heavily involved in the College of Optometrists in Vision Development (COVD), serving as COVD Club President and Liaison for two years.

During her residency, she continued her leadership role in the COVD as COVD Resident Liaison. She earned her Fellowship in the COVD in April 2019. In addition, Dr. Bailey enjoys volunteering to help underserved populations world-wide. She organized and participated in two optometric mission trips - El Salvador in July 2012 and Peru in June 2013 - through an organization called Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity (VOSH). She has proudly received several awards including, but not limited to, the Who’s Who Among Students and Universities recognition, Gandhi/Silani Annual Scholarship for Clinical Excellence and Leadership, the Dr. Kim-Anh Nguyen Endowed Scholarship for demonstrating volunteerism with an underserved population, and the COVD Award of Excellence in Vision Therapy.

During her residency, Dr. Bailey presented a poster on vision therapy treatment for a child with amblyopia and congenital cataracts at the American Academy of Optometry (AAO). She also presented a COPE approved academic presentation on oculomotor rehabilitation for acquired brain injury patients held at SUNY.

Dr. Bailey is an active volunteer at the Lions Optometric Vision Clinic which provides quality eye care for low-income and no income individuals through San Diego County, who are otherwise unable to obtain assistance through private insurance, welfare, or other social service angencies. Dr. Bailey makes it a priority to help those in need and believes in the power of building and strengthening communities.

Outside of optometry, Dr. Bailey enjoys travelling and immersing herself in different cultures. She also enjoys activities such as gardening, dancing, hiking, and snowboarding. You can also find her spending time with her family and friends and chasing a beautiful sunset with her dog, Subi.
