About Dr. Bui

Dr. Jenifer Bui, OD

Associate Developmental and Neuro-Optometrist at SDVT

Dr. Jenifer Bui is dedicated to helping patients of all ages overcome complex visual challenges through the specialized fields of vision therapy and neuro-optometric rehabilitation. She is thrilled to bring her expertise to San Diego Optometric Vision Therapy and serve the local community. Dr. Bui is especially committed to helping patients with binocular vision disorders, learning-related vision problems, and those recovering from acquired brain injuries.

Originally from the East Coast, Dr. Bui earned her Doctor of Optometry from the New England College of Optometry after receiving a B.S. in Mathematics. She completed a residency focused specifically on Vision Therapy and Vision Rehabilitation in Hamilton, NJ. Her training emphasized a collaborative approach to care, and she has extensive experience in co-management with primary care providers, ophthalmologists, physical and occupational therapists, pediatricians, neurologists, and concussion specialists.

During her graduate studies at the New England College of Optometry, Dr. Bui was the recipient of several scholarships and awards in recognition of her academic and clinical achievements. These included The Rosemore Family Scholarship, the Dr. Robert Allard Compassionate Clinician Award, the Healthy Vision Association Scholarship, and the Harry and Sara Pildes Scholarship.

While completing her residency, Dr. Bui authored the paper, "Vision Therapy Post Strabismus Surgery: A Proposed Model of Care." Her paper proposes that for certain patients, particularly those with large-angle, constant strabismus, a course of treatment combining surgery with post-operative vision therapy can lead to optimal outcomes. Using case reports as examples, the research shows that while surgery can successfully correct the physical alignment of the eyes, subsequent vision therapy is essential for restoring true functional binocularity and depth perception. The work concludes by advocating for an integrated co-management model between ophthalmology and optometry for this specific patient population.

Outside of the office, Dr. Bui is excited to explore all that San Diego has to offer. She loves trying new places to eat, playing tennis, and expressing her creative side through calligraphy and other crafts.
